Review/Giveaway: Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil

Sunday, May 27, 2012

Belonging to a "crunchie" mom group on Facebook, I've heard lots about coconut oil.  However, I've had zero experience with it.  So I was pretty excited when Tropical Traditions gave me the opportunity to review their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil.  Disclaimer: Tropical Traditions provided me with a free sample of this product to review, and I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose.  Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return for the free product.

What it is:

Win 1 quart of  Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil!
Tropical Traditions is America's source for coconut oil. Their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is hand crafted in small batches by family producers, and it is the highest quality coconut oil they offer. You can read more about how virgin coconut oil is different from other coconut oils on their website: What is Virgin Coconut Oil? You can also watch the video they produced about Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil:

Tropical Traditions also carries other varieties of affordable high quality coconut oil. Visit their website to check on current sales, to learn about the many uses of coconut oil, and to read about all the  advantages of buying coconut oil online. Since the FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away, here is the best website to read about the health benefits of coconut oil.

What I think:

My family was headed to a friend's for dinner and we offered to bring dessert.  In taking out the ingredients, I realized that I had no oil...or so I thought.  I had just received my coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, so I figured I'd give it a whirl.  When I first opened the jar, I thought it had gone bad during shipment.  It was a cloudy, solid consistancy.  After reading the label (Duh), I realized that it's supposed to look like that at temps under 76 degrees.  Oh and I also noticed that it has less calories per serving than other oils, bonus!  I followed the directions and liquefied the oil.  I think this is the first time I've ever seen a clear cooking oil.  I kind of like that.
In it's solid form
Clear as water as a liquid

Anyway, back to the coconut oil brownies...Delicious!  Everyone loved them.  I've used the recipe before and the only difference in using the coconut oil was the slight coconut flavor, which actually enhanced the taste of the brownies.  I will definitely use it again in my baking.  I'm also looking forward to trying some of the recipes on the on the Tropical Traditions website and exploring all of the other uses for coconut oil.

Now who wants to try it?

I use it all the time! LOVE IT! I started because of the benefits of using coconut oil for oil pulling. Now I use it for everything including as a moisturizer!

I've heard coconut oil is much better for you than other oils.

Yummmm! I have recently discovered this decadent oil and have used it on my skin and in both savory and sweet dishes and in my coffee. I'm totally hooked!

I know a little about Tropical Traditions. I know that coconut has gotten a bad rap. It's the junky super refined oil that is bad for you. Not this pure oil sold from TT. Thanks!!
